December

December
Joyce Genari

Some leaves refused
To let go of the tree
Then it became too frigid
So cold up high
They jumped
Only to land on the
White down bed below
Fallen brown stars nestled
Knowing they were safe
From mow or rake
Gazing up to the mother
They quivered awaiting
Layers of blankets to come
